Agents Are Using AI to Write Captions. They're Not Using It Where the Money Actually Is.

Look at what RPR's 2026 survey says agents are actually doing with AI:

  • Writing listing descriptions — 68%
  • Creating social media content — 59%
  • Writing emails and newsletters — 53%

Now look at what's much further down the list: market analysis and pricing tools, at 39%. Chatbots and AI assistants — the category that would actually help with lead follow-up and nurture — sit at 47%, well behind basic writing tasks.

None of that is wrong. Writing tools save real time — RPR found 71% of agents cite time savings as AI's top value, and over a third are saving 4+ hours a week. That's a real number. But it also tells you where the industry's collective attention has gone: the easy, visible, low-stakes stuff. Captions. Descriptions. Newsletter drafts.

Meanwhile the highest-value work in this business barely shows up in the survey's usage numbers at all. After about five years in the business, roughly 80% of an agent's transactions should come from people who already know them — past clients and their sphere. Most agents have 200 to 300 people in their contacts who'd list with them if simply asked, sitting untouched. That's not a content problem. AI won't fix it by writing you a better Instagram caption. It fixes it by actually working that list consistently — something a person with a full calendar rarely gets to, and something AI is genuinely good at if it's set up to do it.

That's the pattern I keep running into with agents: they've picked up AI for the visible, easy wins, and stopped there, because nobody pointed them toward the higher-value use sitting one step further out — the follow-up that isn't happening, the database that isn't getting worked, the pricing conversation that still runs on gut feel instead of pulled data.

Here's what I actually did in my own business: the writing tools were the easy part. The bigger shift was setting AI up to close the follow-up gap I had with warm leads — the kind of gap that quietly costs agents real deals every year, not because the CRM failed, but because there wasn't enough bandwidth to act on it consistently.

That's not a one-time setup. It's an ongoing thing — new leads come in, the database keeps growing, and what AI should be doing for you six months from now looks different than what it's doing today. That's why I don't just do a one-time fix and disappear. I stay on with agents as an ongoing sounding board, so the next gap gets caught before it costs you a full quarter.
