Building SheltonStudioRanch.com: When "Just a Website" Got Harder
The bar had moved
After GaffgaGroup.com, I figured the next site would be the easy one — I'd already done this once. Shelton Studio Ranch proved me wrong. This wasn't a hub-and-two-paths brand site; it was the online front door for a $10M, 9-lot luxury home community in Golden that I'd personally secured as listing agent. Buyers at this price point don't want a brochure. They want to feel the land — video of the ranch and the views, and real information on each lot, not a static PDF that's three weeks stale by the time they call.
The $15,000 alternative
Before I went back to Claude, a website designer quoted me $15,000 to build this from scratch. Not unreasonable for a site with this much custom functionality — but exactly the kind of spend this consultancy exists to question first. So I asked myself what I'd ask a client: is there a cheaper way to prove this out before committing that kind of money?
The same starting move — a harder problem
I went back to Claude the same way I had the first time: describe what the site needs to do, who it needs to convince, and what "good" looks like for this buyer. The difference showed up immediately. This wasn't five pages of copy and a contact form — it needed video woven into the experience, and lot cards that stayed accurate — availability, pricing, status — without me hand-editing HTML every time something changed.
What actually happened
I incorporated professional video and photos I'd already commissioned for the listing, and worked with Claude to build a hero video for the landing page, with renderings, photos and video placed strategically to capture the feel and lifestyle I wanted buyers to see.
When a lot's status or price changes now, I just describe the change to Claude — the code gets written and the site updated within five minutes. No call to a developer, no invoice.
Given the added complexity, this build took 8-10 hours, spread across more than one sitting — not the single afternoon GaffgaGroup.com took. But the output was beyond what I expected, and the ranch's developer — my client on this listing — was elated.
Why this matters beyond the website
Shelton Studio Ranch is the proof point for the luxury/custom-home niche I want to grow. Now the website that represents it is proof of something else too: that "vibe coding" isn't a one-trick demo that only works for simple sites. It scales up to something with real moving parts — video, live data, a buyer who expects both to just work.
That's the same discipline this whole consultancy is built on: prove it in my own business, on a harder problem each time, before I bring it to a client's — and in this case, prove it against a real $15,000 quote, landing at a fraction of the cost using nothing but my own time. If you're weighing a similar build-vs-quote decision in your own business, that's exactly what a Free Clarity Call is for.
